MH-17 Malaysian Plane
On 17 July 2014 a Malaysian plane MH – 17 which was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was crashed in eastern Ukraine, near to the border with Russia.
There were 298 people in the plane, including 80 children and 15 crew members. Malaysia Airlines' passenger list shows flight MH – 17 was carrying 193 Dutch nationals, 43 Malaysians, 27 Australians, 12 Indonesians and 10 British. There were also 4 Germans, 4 Belgians, 3 Philipins, 1 Canadian and one New Zealander on board.
The cause of the crash has not yet detemined very well by the officials investigation but both US and Ukranian officials declared that a surface-to-air missile strike is the most likely cause.
They said the “most likely explanation” for shooting down of the plane was that rebels mistook it for another aircraft.
The Chief of the Counter Intelligence Department of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) told a news conference, “we have compelling evidence that this terrorist act was committed with the help of the Russian Federation. We know clearly that the crew of this system were Russian citizens.
